So true, Carrie, so why not get a bunch of your girlfriends together for a girls night in, Sex and the City style. With a little planning and working together, you can have a fabulous evening that costs way less than even one of Carrie’s fashionable outfits.
Set the Scene
Let your friends know that it’s a Sex and the City night. Tell them to bring their favourite quotes and memories from the show. And tell them to dress in their fashionista best, even if it’s an outfit they wouldn’t normally have. The four ladies on the show wear some pretty out-there stuff sometimes, so just have fun. Heels are a must and funky jewellery is a plus. Try to put together an outfit like one your favourite character might wear. Raid your closet, your friend’s closet, whatever it takes to look your SATC best.
Food, Glorious Food (and drink…)

Carrie may not be able to cook, but that doesn’t mean you can’t. And one must-have for a SATC party is cupcakes. While the men in your life may disappoint you, a good cupcake never will. The ladies in Manhattan get their cupcakes from the Magnolia Bakery, but you can make your own. Choose your favourite cupcake recipe and get started. The icing, of course, it the most important part so make plenty, dye it pink, pile it high and add some sprinkles. It’ll put a smile on your face before you even take a bite.
Depending on your budget, you may want to make dinner or order out. Chinese take-out is perfect for your gathering, and not too expensive if you share the cost. Or you could just have cupcakes and drinks, which are also an important part of your evening.
The SATC ladies love their beverages and one of their favourites is the Cosmopolitan, a combination of vodka, triple sec and fruit juices. If you don’t know how to make one, here’s what you need:
Cosmopolitan
- 1½ shots citrus vodka
- ½ shot Cointreau
- ¾ shot cranberry juice
- ½ shot lime juice
- 2 dashes orange bitters
- Shake all ingredients well with ice and fine strain in to a cocktail glass. Garnish with a flamed orange zest.
. Serve in large cocktail glasses.
Girl Talk Time

With cupcake in one hand and Cosmo in the other, settle in for a heart-to-heart chat with your friends and let it out. Carrie and friends enjoy talking about everything, but their favourite topics tend to be men and sex, so that’s a great place to start. Talk about your first love and your true love or how you are still looking for your true love or haven’t really ever had a love. Talk about your first time and your best time and any of the times in between. Sometimes the not-so-great times make for the best conversations. Dis about your ex, or his new girlfriend, the current man in your life, or your relationships. When it comes to Sex and the City conversations, nothing is off-limits, so start chatting.
Learn from the Ladies
You’re all dressed up, you’ve eaten and had probably more than enough to drink and you’ve talked until you’re hoarse. Now it’s time to sit back and watch the show you’ve patterned your evening after. You can watch a couple of favourite episodes or the movies. It’s the perfect way to finish off your Sex and the City night, though you’re likely to begin it all over after the show is over, having more snacks, more drinks and more conversation. And after it is all said and done, you will have had a fabulous night with your friends and you won’t have spent a small fortune doing it. You may even want to begin planning for Sex and the City II.
